What to Expect from IPL Hair Removal

2026-06-18 Your Body Solutions

IPL — intense pulsed light — is probably the treatment people arrive with the most questions about, and the most assumptions. Some of those assumptions come from advertising rather than from anyone who has actually sat through a course, so it's worth setting out plainly what the process looks like from the client's side of the room.

It starts with a consultation, not a session. We look at the area you want treated, talk about your hair colour and texture and your skin, and go through what the appointment involves. This part matters more than people expect: IPL is not equally suited to everyone or to every area, and the honest answer at this stage is sometimes that another approach would serve you better. You will get that answer rather than a booking.

If we go ahead, the next step is usually a patch test — a small area treated and then left alone for a while so we can both see how your skin responds before committing to a full session. Skipping this step to get started sooner is a false economy, and it's not something we'll do.

IPL is a course, not a single appointment. Hair grows in cycles and a session only engages with the hair that happens to be in the right phase at the time, which is why sessions are spaced out and why the number of them varies a great deal from one person to the next. Anyone who quotes you a fixed number before seeing the area is guessing.

Between and after sessions, the treated area needs looking after — sun exposure in particular. We'll go through the aftercare with you at the appointment rather than handing you a leaflet and hoping.

If you're weighing it up, book a consultation and ask everything you want to ask before committing. Call Your Body Solutions on (604) 309-1450.
